Trinity Term Dinner, C.N. Kopkë x Bacchus (SECOND RELEASE)
*Maximum 2 Tickets Per Person*
With roots dating back to 1638, long before the Douro Valley was formally established, C. N. Kopkë proudly holds the crown of the world’s oldest Port wine house. Founded by Nicholau Kopkë, a German expatriate serving as Consul General of the Hanseatic League in Portugal, the company began as a merchant house exporting regional wines back to his homeland.
After a century of operating purely as merchants, Kopkë acquired its first estate in the Douro Valley, the world’s oldest legally demarcated wine region. From that point on, Port wine gradually became the house’s primary focus and, ultimately, its defining legacy.
Over the centuries, Kopkë continued to cultivate immense influence throughout Portugal. This prominence was vividly exemplified by Cristiano Kopkë, the founder’s great-great-grandson, who fought valiantly for the nation’s liberation during the Portuguese Civil War – a dedication that earned him the title of 1st Baron of Vilar in 1836.
Today, Kopkë stands out for the remarkable breadth of its portfolio, boasting highly acclaimed dry wines alongside the historical Port treasures that rest deep within its cellars. Most notably, the house is recognised as the world’s leading producer of Colheita Ports: exceptional tawny Ports crafted entirely from the grapes of a single harvest year and gracefully aged in oak barrels, often for decades.
Join us on Monday 15 June, as Mr. Michael Robins, Director at Jeroboams Wine Merchant, dusts off pieces of Kopkë’s revered history to share with us. Having spent his entire career working alongside a diverse array of wineries across the globe, Mr. Robins is perfectly poised to do justice to Kopkë’s rich and varied legacy. Expect an evening featuring both dry and Port wines, spanning from exceptional recent vintages to rarities bottled long before any of us were born.
We cordially invite you to the charming Cherwell Boathouse, where these historic wines will be paired alongside a carefully curated five-course menu. We look forward to seeing you there!
